With voipbuster/sipdiscount

by Balazs on Sunday 29 of January, 2006 [14:02:51 UTC]
I was just looking for a simple sip client, asterix seemed way much more than that, so I didn't even try. Many of the above clients did not (or at least would not easily) install on my real ooold Suse 9.0. Kphone did, but it doesn't seem to be able to send password when calling, which is required by some cheap pc-to-phone providers like voipbuster or sipdiscount. Finally X-lite (see the third link by Viktor) launched right away on Suse 9.0 and seems to have no problems.

Balazs

Three are free WORKING(!!!) and neat SIP softphones for Linux!

http://www.sjlabs.com/
http://www.sflphone.org/
http://www.xten.com/ (DL: http://www.xten.com/index.php?menu=download )

I have tried them on Ubuntu Breezy and they worked.
Useful tip:
To use the mic you should enable Mic boost, Capture source and Mic source together in KMix
If you know how to set the mike also under Gnome, please do not hesitate to share it!
